If you locked Harold Budd and The Caretaker in a haunted studio overnight, you might in the morning, if you were very lucky, have something like Danny Clay's I am a poor wayfaring stranger.

Though there are five separate tracks on the CD, these play more like one haunting, drifting piece of music. Even without cues like the beautiful cover image (a blurred, snowy field photographed through a frosty window) or the track title "Winter Veil", this music has a distant, wintry feel. The ambient piano, looped, treated or simply played, provides the fragile melodies which layered over atmospheric crackles, clicks and rumbles, give the work its vintage feel.

Released on 3" CDr in an limited numbered edition of 75 by Heat Death Records (mine, of course, is number 23!), you really should pick this up before it sells out. When you order, you also get an immediate digital download of the tracks, so you can start listening straight away.
